  • Primary language is Norwegian

  • Most prominent religion is Evangelical Lutheran Christian

  • ​Most families are small, but relatives often continue to live in the same town/area

  • It is not uncommon to address everyone by their first name, including teachers

  • Tend to have very open, honest, and straight-forward communication styles

    • As we talked about in our meetings, they tend to be very open to discussing politics​

Traditional Clothing

  • Norwegians enjoy being outside, including to hike, fish, and barbeque

  • Focus on egalitarianism, meaning that everyone is equal

    • Seen most commonly in gender roles - women and men have the same level of responsibility for working and raising children

  • For most parents, it is important to teach their children responsibility and independency

  • Emphasis on modesty and politeness, a mindset called "janteloven"

    • As we talked about in one of our meetings, Norwegians do not like to boast name-brand items or clothing and often live in the same types of housing

Traditional Foods

  • Diet rich in fish due to historical reliance on fishing

  • Bread is very commonly served with meals

  • It is uncommon to have a hot meal before dinner

  • Today, Norway has a large mixture of traditional and international cuisines
