Chemistry PLTL
What is the PLTL Model?
Peer-led team learning (PLTL) is implemented in all IUI Chemistry courses. Students in Chemistry attend their lecture times prior to meeting for a recitation section each week. Chemistry recitations at IUI consist of approximately 9 students and are led by a former student in the class. The goal of the PLTL model in recitation is to work in groups within the class to complete the workshop problems. The recitation leaders work closely with the Chemistry instructors prior to meeting for their recitation time, where they help with any questions the students have and lead workshop discussions.
My Role
I have led as a Chemistry recitation leader since my second semester during my first year at IUI. As of Fall 2024, I have led 4 sessions of General Chemistry I and 2 sessions of General Chemistry II. Not only do I get the opportunity to help current Chemistry students, but I stay refreshed on the topics to apply them to my own learning in Organic Chemistry, and utilize the refresher as I prepare to take the MCAT.
